Help Protect Health Freedom in California - Stop AB 575!

The CA Assembly bill AB 575 will affect your right to access highly qualified nutritional professionals of your choice (if you are a consumer in California) and will also prohibit you from providing valuable nutritional therapy (if you are a nutrition professional in California).  It will be heard before Assembly Committee on Business, Professions and Consumer Protections on Tuesday April 26th, 2011 in Sacramento, CA.

This bill is being introduced by the CDA (California Dietetics Association) and under this bill nutritionists must become licensed dietitians in order to practice! This would create a monopoly for RDs as clinical nutrition providers and limit your freedom of choice when it comes to working with other nutrition professionals.

OTHER INFORMATION
This has all happened in the last week and Trudy Scott, has gathered much of the relevant information on her blog  details of the hearing, how to submit online letters, radio interviews and more:

Keep Organics A Safe Haven from Unsafe/Unnecessary Synthetics

Protect Babies/Children's HealthView VideoSign the Petition

BACKGROUND
Organic foods provide a refuge from the toxins, synthetics, and chemically processed ingredients that masquerade as food in the conventional food supply.

Through corruption at the USDA some questionable 'nutrient' ingredientsproduced by Martek Biosciences Corporations (DHA/ARA oils from algae and soil fungus)  have illegally found their way into organic foods, including organic infant formula, baby food and milk.  And they are making some children very sick.

The corporations whose profits depend on these untested and unnecessary novel ingredients have launched a full-blown lobbying effort to chip away at the integrity of the organic label.

Not only have they convinced the USDA not to enforce the law (current federal standards prohibit these materials in organics), corporate lobbyists are now pressuring the National Organic Standards Board to adopt new rules that would open the door to these additives, and hundreds of others like them.

We cannot allow these powerful corporations to water down the organic label.

ACTION STEPS:

1.  Watch the latest 4-minute video from Cornucopia Institute, which shows the importance of ensuring that suspect and unproven 'nutrient' additives like Martek's DHA and ARA oils stay out of organics.  http://www.cornucopia.org/2011/04/infant-health-at-risk-corporations-polluting-organic-food/

2.  And sign Cornucopias petition asking for immediate enforcement action that would rid the organic marketplace of unnecessary, untested, non-organically produced ingredients. http://www.cornucopia.org/ban-bogus-synthetic-additives-in-organics/
